MEXICO 86
directed by:
GABRIEL RIPSTEIN

For this film, we stepped into the vibrant world of 1980s Mexico, bringing to life iconic figures of the era, from Azcárraga to legendary football players.

Building each character meant diving into old newspapers, magazines, and photographs, searching for the little details that made this decade so distinctive. The 80s have always been both a challenge and a playground for me, and this project was no exception.

Working with Gabriel Ripstein is always a wonderful creative experience. His openness to costume ideas gives us the freedom to explore, experiment, and discover.

Watching characters like Martín de la Torre, Susana, and Jackie come to life, searching for Pelé’s incredible suits, and exploring the bold tailoring and silhouettes of the decade made this journey unforgettable.

A beautiful mix of research, creativity, and a little 80s magic.

LOS ANGELES

For México 86, our journey took us to Palace Costume in Los Angeles, home to an incredible archive of 1980s menswear and a wonderful collection of women's clothing. So many treasures to discover! A special thank you to Lee for all the help and kindness along the way.

¡GRACIAS, GRACIAS, GRACIAS!!!

One of the sweetest surprises of working on México 86 was getting to experience my very first football match at CU Stadium. I never imagined how exciting it would be to be there, surrounded by all that energy. I absolutely loved every minute of it!

Endless thanks to Adela Cortázar for trusting my work and for all the laughter and fittings along the way. To our incredible costume team, Ana Sierra, Martín, Gabriel, and the wonderful cast and crew who made this journey so special.
