MAL DE AMORES
directed by:
CATALINA AGUILAR MASTRETTA
Bringing characters to life within Mastretta’s universe was an extraordinary creative journey. Months of research, exploration, and discovery allowed us to immerse ourselves in the world of Emilia, our protagonist, and the historical setting of a story woven with love, courage, and resilience.
Our journey took us to Madrid, searching for original vintage pieces, fabrics, and materials that could capture the spirit of the era. Working alongside costume rental houses in Los Angeles and Mexico City, we brought together garments, textures, and fragments of history to shape the visual identity of each character.
“More than recreating a period, it was about finding the small, meaningful details that make a character feel truly alive”

MADRID
We arrived in Madrid in October, full of excitement and endless lists of things to find.
We spent six beautiful days at Peris Costumes, wandering through their early 1900s archives, surrounded by original garments and remarkable reproductions. Somewhere between endless racks of costumes and hidden treasures, we found everything our incredible background cast needed, while searching for the essence of our characters along the way.
The following days took us to Cornejo, a treasure trove of costume history that left us speechless. And, of course, no costume journey would be complete without getting lost in every fabric shop we could find.
Endless gratitude to the costume houses that opened their doors to us, and to Cinthia, for pouring so much love into this project.
I think of you every time I see Emilia’s skirts.
LOS ANGELES
We arrived in Los Angeles ready for a week of costume treasures and endless discoveries. From exploring the archives of Western Costume and American Costume to wandering through countless vintage shops, every stop brought something new.
By the end of the week, we found ourselves at Moods and International, searching for fabrics and materials, before stumbling upon a tiny shop filled with everything imaginable for corset making. Such a curious, magical little place, and the perfect way to end our adventure.

SAN LUIS POTOSÍ
Our days were filled with spontaneous fittings and afternoons working from our costume truck in the heart of San Luis Potosí. Between costumes and the beautiful chaos of filming, we became part of the city’s everyday rhythm, sharing smiles and little moments with the locals.
PUEBLA
In Puebla, we filmed Sol’s wedding, one of the most extraordinary moments of my career. Seeing that breathtaking location come to life with over 500 people dressed in early 1900s costumes felt like stepping into another era. A moment of pure magic that I will never forget.
One of the most unforgettable moments of the series was Jacinta’s wedding. Such a deeply emotional scene, brought to life by Sasha’s extraordinary performance. It was one of those rare moments when everything felt so real, so moving, and impossible to forget.
We spent many days filming in Izúcar de Puebla, a location that came with its own challenges. But with such an incredible cast and a crew that slowly became family, even the toughest days turned into beautiful memories.
Puebla is full of beautiful, unexpected places, each with its own little magic. Somewhere along the way, it became one of my favorite places in Mexico.
¡GRACIAS, GRACIAS, GRACIAS!
A very special Gracias to Adela Cortázar for being such an incredible leader, for trusting me, and for generously sharing your knowledge of period costume design. These are lessons I will carry with me forever.
To Felipe Cervantes for his wonderful talent, and to our entire costume team, who became a beautiful family to me.
To Andrea Gamboa for helping us bring it all to life, and to Robin, Mafer, Renata, Juan Pablo, and the amazing cast and crew who shared this journey with us.
I will carry each of you with me, always.
